Timpanogas Cave…again..

We Hiked to Timpanogas Cave with some friends while they were in town. We had a very interesting time… It was all stormy, and when we started out it was just sprinkling. So we thought “oh this is nice, a little mist to keep us cool on our long hike”. Boy were we wrong!! Just as we started saying that the DOWNPOUR came!! Luckily there was a little cave type thing that went over the trail so we stayed in there to try and stay dry. We thought this would only be like a 5 or 10 minute storm and then just pass by…NOPE more like constant RAIN. (oh and some lightning and thunder too. Just what you want to see and hear when you are on a hike on the side of a mountain with nothing to keep that lightning from hitting you) timpWe kept going and got SOAKED!! The kids were freezing all the way up the trail, I just couldn’t wait for them to be in the 45 degree cave and hear what they had to say about the cold then. As we were going up there was a ranger telling everyone to watch for falling rocks because a little boy had been hit in the head by one and it was pretty bad. That had us all worried because we had Drew and Allie with us, so we went as fast as we could up that mountain!! We saw the little boy he was about Andrew’s age and was walking down but he had a huge bandage on his head. Finally we got to the cave and we walked in and we were freezing!! It was beautiful but COLD!! Allie got really tired during the tour and Matt picked her up and she fell asleep on him. So for a while he carried her…I don’t know how he didn’t bonk her head on every rock…there are some tight squeezes in there. After a while we realized that Allie had woken up but was pretending to be asleep so she didn’t have to walk, let’s just say that little plan of hers didn’t last long. :)timp-1

The tour was a lot of fun and once we got outside the rain had stopped but the clouds were sill over us so we had a nice shady walk down the mountain. We really love this hike, it’s hard but it’s so worth it!! Next time I think we’ll go when it’s not raining though!! :)

2 friends had something to say about this:

this is cool because I was just thinking about that hike and it's just been so long since I did it, I kept trying to figure out if I thought my kids could do it. But yours are still alive! Maybe we'll try it! I do love that cave and everything.... fun. Your kids are so adorable btw.
